GetRight-how to register without troubles - by kenno1

Use this page as an example of where to place this code (view the source for this html page to understand how this works... very simple right?)

I'm sorry if it is posted in the wrong forum-I have no clue which one is correct for this post.

As it has been available for download new version of well known downloader-GetRight 5.01 what I've done was the simplest thing-I've installed over previous version.
And surprise-pirated key detected and you have to wait 24 hours for the next registering.
The next step was uninstall with its own procedure and install new version: again-the same information.
Also few people told me,after installing few days later GetRight gave an information about illegal reg file.

It was a reason I decided to make a deeper research and share this information here-how to have good working this nice program.

So let's start. (my information was checked for Windows 98 but similar should be for any other Windows)

1.Opposte what was mentioned by the author-don't upgrade over existing version-uninstall it first.

2.Open registry editor and find following keys-delete all.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HeadLight\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Headlight\

Both should be deleted by uninstaller-in case of any bad procedure of installation-you gotta delete them manualy.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F853B2C7-386A-11D3-A860-006097897A00}

Here is a mistery key which ISN'T deleted after uninstalling-it is a hidden place where GetRight leaves information about registration.
Of course make a backup of your registry before you do anything.
You were warned.
For safet reasons-reboot computer.

3.Install GetRight with following serial:
NTSXTE-CB1F2-L6H9i-47oKK-FGK6Q
DON'T CONNECT TO THE NET YET.

4.Blocking "calling home"
It seems GetRight connect to servers to check entered serial isn't pirated.
With your firewall block following IPs for this program:

63.131.150.21
216.12.208.13
216.40.195.89
216.127.76.33
216.127.76.171

I'm not sure all are important but I've done it for my peace of mind-I've checked with whois service-all are registered by the company of GetRight.

As many people don't realize firewall rules are executed from the top to the bottom and first one which meets conditions of the compared data stream stops checking the next one.
In another words to make things more clear.

If a 2 rules are created for Internet Explorer:
a.allow all traffic
b.block IP 111.111.111.111
The second one never be used as the first one meets general criteria.

So if I don't want my IE connects to this IP but connect to any others the rules should be set opposite:
a.block IP 111.111.111.111
b.allow all traffic

For Getright as the first rule GOTTA be the deny (block) rule for above IPs.

5.The last step (not so important because of step 4)
Tools-GetRight Configuration-Advanced:
uncheck "Automatically check for new version"

And that is all.
Should work great

BTW-remember, you set deny IP for the home page of GetRight so for downloading new version use any other downloader or simply-your browser.

Hope my experiences can be helpful.
Good Luck.
